Transat New York – Vendée Les Sables
The sun was high and warm in New York this Friday for an exceptional day! 22 IMOCA boats completed short speed courses in front of the Statue of Liberty.
A fabulous and exceptional show in which Holcim-PRB participated. Nicolas Lunven and Rosalin Kuiper, the skippers of the monohull, had part of the technical team and some guests on board with them. It was a wonderful moment of sharing and a way for Nicolas Lunven to shake off the rust after arriving two weeks ago from the outbound race, The Transat CIC. "The Vendée Liberty went very well. It was great to put on a show here, right in front of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. It was a hot, sunny day. The wind wasn’t very strong, but it was enough for us to enjoy these runs. Sailing here, amidst the towering buildings of Manhattan, is really unusual but also iconic," Nicolas recounts. On Wednesday, the skipper of Holcim-PRB will set off on the return journey for a route connecting the Big Apple to Les Sables d’Olonne. This will be the last transatlantic crossing before the start of the Vendée Globe. "It's really great to be here; we've had the chance to share some good moments with our partners. Now, I will focus on the upcoming race, the New York Vendée, particularly on the start. I will begin working on the weather and finalize the various points with the technical team to ensure everything is ready for Wednesday," concludes the Holcim-PRB skipper.
The New York – Vendée race, a solo return transatlantic race, will start on May 29 at 8 PM (French time). Nearly 30 IMOCA boats will line up at the start of the first edition of this race organized by SAEM Vendée, which also organizes the solo round-the-world race without stops or assistance.
